Excerpt from "Looking Back"
by P.M. Bishop. Printed by Taylor & Sons 1993

My first infants school, once Mr Tinley's boys school as well, still stands in Gaston's Road. It is now used as an arts centre for children in the comprehensive school. The school I next attended is now the Town Library. My mind is flooded with memories of my school days and first teaching days whenever I look at the big window there. It was a window in the classroom where I spent six happy years. My secondary school, later called grammar school, can be seen no more. It stood in the grounds of the newish junior school, and was in fact used by the juniors for some time, but was said to be unsafe and was knocked down.
