EKCO I.F. SIGNAL GENERATOR

TYPE E199 MK II

Function
The Ekco E199 Mark II Signal Generator is designed for pulse and CW work in the range 25 to 70 Mc/s and is a necessary tool for aligning and testing radar IF and AFC systems. Facilities include internal square wave modulation, external pulse gating and crystal calibration.

General description
There are three frequency bands, changed by plug-in coils. The piston attenuator, which has coarse and fine controls, has an exceptionally high reading accuracy.

Internal modulation
In addition to CW operation a selector switch provides alternatives of superposition of 5 Mc/s calibration pips or 1000 c/s square wave modulation.

External modulation
The generator may be modulated by negative pulses of 10 volts minimum amplitude. The 10% to 90% rise and fall times of these modulating pulses will be preserved to better than 0.1 µsec. in the gated RF envelope. For pulse lengths up to 10 µsec. the pulse output level will be within ±0.25 dB of the CW output at the same attenuator setting.

Calibration checks
A built-in crystal oscillator provides a frequency calibration check at 5 Mc/s intervals up to 70 Mc/s.
