The Honeysuckle Craft Centre is owned and run by Evelyn Parsons. Evelyn has a lifetimes experience of country crafts, stemming from her family's heritage of farming. Having watched her Grandmother sewing, baking and making all kinds of preserves, and helping around the farm generally as she grew up, Evelyn has always had a keen interest in keeping these traditions alive.
Evelyn grows as much produce as she is able to in her own garden and uses everything she can to make jams, marmalades and pickles to traditional country recipes. Without the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides preservatives or flavourings, Evelyn produces a wide range and rarely found quality of preserves.
Needlework is Evelyn's other main interest. Her first job after leaving school was as a seamstress at a hospital in Sussex. After moving to Wiltshire, Evelyn trained as an occupational therapist and is qualified to teach all manner of crafts and has certificates for Occupational Therapy, Adult Education, Health and Fitness, food Hygiene and City and Guilds Teacher of Handicrafts. Evelyn is married to John Parsons, which is in itself a challenge, as John suffered severe head injuries in a road accident and is now living in a residential care home. With Evelyn's care and attention, John learned to walk again, which none of the medical professionals thought possible. Evelyn is a committed Christian and welcomes people from all around the World to stay at her home, which she also runs as a
Bed and Breakfast
house. Honeysuckle is also open between March and October for afternoon teas, between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, Wednesday to Saturday inclusive.
It is Evelyn's dream to offer courses for people who are interested in learning crafts while giving them somewhere to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country. Until such times that the dream can be fulfilled, Evelyn earns her living from the bed and breakfast and the craft center.
Do take the opportunity to go and browse. You can find Honeysuckle on the Foxley Road just out of the town centre, look for the white picket fence to your right. Should you want to order anything for a special occasion, Evelyn will be happy to advise of what she can provide to order, though please bear in mind that many of the items displayed in her recent exhibition at Malmesbury Library took some time to complete.
